#1717 Samsung Gear 360 FAQ

Posted by admin on 15 September 2016 - 07:54 AM

In this topic put the question with answer, then I will edit first post and add it.

Has Gear 360 waterpoof housing?

Yes, it has. (http://360camerasfor...rproof-housing/)

Is there a desktop software that we can use to view Samsung Gear 360 photos & video?

Check http://www.kolor.com...layer/download/ . Available for al desktop OS'es and mobile platforms

I have visible stitches in my photos, what can I do do prevent that?

1. Where is the light coming from and is it distributed evenly?

If the light falling on the lenses don't have the same intensity you can always line the camera so both lenses capture the same portion of the light. Lineup the camera so the two lenses are perpendicular to the light source. Or, in other words, the line between the lenses point to the light source.

2. White balance.

If at all possible set the white balance manually. It will give a better result, it seems both lenses can have a different white balance when it is set on auto,

3. Stich the photo on your phone. It is better for stitching then ActionDirector

So, I did a photo shoot for a client. How can to publish the photo on their website?

Well, this is a tricky question and depends on your clients CMS (Content Management System, which is software to publish media and text to a website).

Many small companies use free solutions like Wordpress and they have free plugins. Check https://nl.wordpress...gins/tags/360-1 to see if there is anything that you like.

However, there are more then 1000 CMS’s around which are not free. There is, however, one solution that always works: an iframe. You can set up a site yourself and publish your content there, if your client iframes that content your set.

This forum has a section dedicated to hosting by the way (see here http://360camerasfor...-360-platforms/), so you can publish your content there and have them iframe that page. You will have less control over the look and feel so that can be a problem.

Or more popular 360 camaras have section "Videos and photos" like here for LG 360 Cam and Samsung Gear 360.

I want to know if I can set the camera to use manual controls. I want to take pictures with long exposure with the shutter open for several seconds.

It is possible? (This question what about manual exposure. See this link).
No, there is no manual exposure control that will open the shutter for several seconds. This is really sad, but there is something else you can try to have a nice photo shoot in the dark. This is taken from the astrophotography world and is about 'stacking' your photos.
This only works for static scenes, although you can have moving things like cars in it. Your subject needs to be absolutely still.
- Set your ISO so you have a well lit photo (I tested with 1600 in a very dark room).
- Take about 10 to 30 shots and stitch them in your phone, remember that the best quality stitch and photo is done on the phone.
- Download a stacker program like http://deepskystacke...lish/index.html (it's free and has no adware or other easy stuff).
- Process you images
The output is a file where the noise from your sensor is removed but the quality of the output will vary. Just try and experiment a lot with the ISO settings.

Is livestreaming possible with the Gear 360?

When you look at the preview on your phone, live streaming is possible. However you can not capture the stream for live streaming purposes at this moment in time. But in theory it's possible.

#3270 Third party remote control for Gear 360

Posted by rich on 30 May 2017 - 09:58 AM

Has anyone managed to use a third party remote control with their Gear 360?

It would be great to be able to take quick photos without having to connect to my phone but I don't want to pay for the Accessory Value Pack just to get a remote control.

Or is there a way to purchase the remote control on its own?

#3252 How do disable IS and AF?

Posted by TokyoStreetView on 18 May 2017 - 09:27 AM

Is there is a way to disable the Camera IS (Image Stab) and what seems to be AF (Auto Focus). Now I am not sure there is any kind of AF on this camera but when people pass by (on a tripod) the image seems to shit focus in video. As well as the IS a pain on this camera mounted on a tripod, it tries to compensate motion that does not exist...

#2684 new update

In my case this update improved the union between the two images. In addition it adds some functions like for example to be able to move the image that is seen in the cellular with the finger without having to change of lens.

#2635 Virtual Reality Video vs. 360 Video

Posted by Ostalstew on 03 January 2017 - 07:11 AM

VR Video vs. 360-degree Video: What’s the Difference
1. 360-degree videos are known for their natural progression from scene to scene. That means filmmakers handpick what they want to present their audience. Viewers consequently don't have any power over their interactions. In contrast, VR thoroughly immerses users into the environment and allows them to explore whatever and however they want to.
2. Virtual reality is only possible with VR headsets, whether these are mobile devices like Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR or more advanced HTC Vice and Oculus Rift. You can achieve really high quality of content with Oculus and HTC Vice. As for 360 video, it may be accessed both through a VR headset and any other device with a regular 2D screen.
3. 360 content will let the filmmaker control the story and the timeline. Unlike in the 360° video, a VR story is not set in stone. User are able to create their own experiences in the VR simulation instead of follow pre-determined timeline.

Pretty excited about the camera, I've been using a GoPro as my main action cam but hoping to become an "expert" at 360 video soon. :)

Any advice on shooting with the camera?

I just wrote up a little initial review of the camera on my site and would love if you guys could offer up any advice for a novice 360 videographer.
